April Meeting Recap

Tax time couldn't keep our builders down for long, or do they have someone else do their taxes? Whatever. Someone must've gotten a refund because there was a trip to Pegasus Hobbies. Thankfully, he was kind enough to share the interesting stuff. We were treated to some nice builds, and some cool kits. A couple of people brought their cars and awards from the Good Guys show. Congratulations to the winners. Those were some especially nice models.

Our one theme model. Nice woody, Dan.

Now for those kits --

Sponsorships and IPMS

We are still looking for people to sponsor categories for the San Diego Model Expo! Sponsering a cetegory is only $25, but it goes a long way towards making events like this possible. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, the form is available on the flier or you can contact Timi at our monthly meeting.

In other news, for those of you interested in military vehicles, the San Diego IPMS will be doing a trip to the Camp Pendleton Mechanized Museum sometime in May or June (date has yet to be finalized). If you are interested, you can get in touch with IPMS here.

ROUND 2, LLC, ACQUIRES LINDBERG & HAWK MODEL KIT BRANDS

Round 2 to Produce Popular Land, Air, Sea & Space Models – Adding to AMT, MPC & Polar Lights

For Immediate Release

SOUTH BEND, Indiana – 03/18/2013 – Round 2, LLC, is pleased to announce the acquisition of the Lindberg and Hawk Models brands and assets from J. Lloyd International. With the transaction, Round 2 adds these two well-recognized and historic plastic model kit names to their existing trio of AMT, MPC and Polar Lights mode kit lines, licensed from Learning Curve Brands, Inc. in 2008 and purchased outright in 2012.

Consumer trust and excitement has been building over Round 2’s efforts with the initial three brands since 2008. Now, with the assets of five major model companies in its stable, Round 2 solidifies its position as a top producer and fierce competitor in the plastic kit sector of the hobby industry. Thomas Lowe, President and CEO of Round 2 states, “The addition of Lindberg and Hawk results in a combined product catalog for Round 2 that is so diverse, it will include virtually every type of model kit genre imaginable and in a wide range of scales. Whether you’re looking for cars, trucks, aircraft, ships, sci-fi, space exploration, anatomy and figures or even crazy monsters, we now have it all! We’ve made plans to hit the ground running with these brands and are ready to go. As we progress into the future, we will be working with the vintage Hawk and Lindberg tooling to resurrect more exciting kits that haven’t seen the light of day in decades, just like we have with AMT and MPC. We’ll also be happy to put the 1934 Ford Pickup tooling back under the original AMT brand, from where it originated.”

Lowe continues, “Like our customers, we love model building. Lindberg and Hawk models are sure to excite modelers of all ages. From the connection with history to a hunger for an understanding of how various machines, both human and mechanical function, the kits created by the original brands have always offered a wide variety of subject matter for model makers, and we plan on continuing that long standing tradition.

Sale at Hobby People

Hobby People in El Cajon and San Diego are running a sale. 25% off Revell kits, and 20% off all the other plastic kits. The one on Convoy in San Diego has a nice selection. They also have lots of paints. I don't know how long the sale lasts, but probably not that long. This is a good chance to get that Challenger or Rat Roaster you've been secretly wanting. They also stock a good selection of science fiction kits. Not that anyone else in the club is into those. . .

2013 San Diego Model Expo

Mark your calendars!

February Meeting Recap

We had an excellent turnout for our Red Baron theme. As you can see from the photos, it was quite the assemblage. Many were stock, but there were some custom builds too. Would that be something like a custom custom? I don't know. I do know it was great to see. Many thanks to those who brought cars, and Tom Daniel's original concept sketch for the Red Baron.

Skip's Models on ebay

At the last meeting I forgot to add Skip's other daughter's ebay sales link, so here it is!

Moving Forwards

Well, all good things must come to and end and with each end is a new beginning. This month was my last month as the President of the San Diego Model Car Club.

Looking back I can hold my head high and know that I have done a pretty decent job of it and now it is time to let the club move forward with new leadership at the helm. My successor is not stranger to our ranks as he has been in our club for quite a few years now and has always been at the ready to help our club prosper and grow.

The new President will be Kyle Allen, and I hope, I am leaving the club to him in a bit better shape then when I found it. Kyle is a strong, steady and dedicated member of the club, and with the aid of our club members and myself, will no doubt take us to the next level. So please join me in January in welcoming him to his new position as President of SDMCC!

I would also like to thank Timi Shahn, Glenn Day, Rachel Ambrose, Dave Ambrose,  Peter Johnson, Dan King, Darryl Gassaway and Skip Samples for helping me, and guiding me at times, during my presidency of the club. And to all our members, past and present, Thank you!

So with this I will wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy and Safe New Year!!

Corvettes! (the kind with wheels)

Kyle Allen brings us this review of the new Revell Corvette

I just bought the Revell 1962 Corvette. Looks as good as the rest of the new stuff. A nice touch is the separate chrome windshield frame. it also comes with extra set of hotrod rims and tires. other than the rims and tires there are no other "extra" parts. The only intake included is the fuel injection. Like the other newer Revell models, the kit includes decals for the engine and the gauges.
